About the CI Global Conference Poster
Senzo Shabangu, a third-year printmaking student at Artist Proof Studio was born in 1985 and grew up in the village of Driefontein (Mpumalanga). His artwork, developed for the CARE International Conference on Poverty, reflects the conference’s Many Voices, One Movement theme. Senzo wrote about his artwork: “We are all living in one planet…Whatever challenges we face, we should act together in one movement.”

Artist Proof Studio is a non-profit, community-based printmaking studio founded in 1991. Based in Newtown Cultural Precinct in inner-city Johannesburg, the studio was established in response to a call by Nelson Mandela to all South Africans to participate in the building of a new, democratic society that would promote reconciliation, cultural diversity, equality, and above all, a culture that celebrates human rights. Each year, Artist Proof trains between 80 and 100 learners from disadvantaged backgrounds to become professional artists and to become well-rounded citizens who make a difference in their communities and society as a whole.
